peralta | History 

FOrmation of the North Tustin Street Preservation Group 

Located at the corner of Canal and Meats, Peralta is the property now leased by Super Sports. This sports complex is widely used by citizens and students from Orange, Villa Park, Anaheim and beyond. It has become part of the fabric of our community.

It is owned by the Orange Unified School District (OUSD), and it formerly housed Peralta Middle School. 

Despite community outcry, in 2013 OUSD President Timothy Surridge spearheaded an effort to lease the land for 99 years to an out-of-town developer. His plan? Build a 3-story, high-density apartment complex with as many as 380 units. Ultimately this plan was defeated thanks in part to the Save Peralta Group.

Residents continue to monitor the Peralta site but discovered  in 2020 that the City was looking to redevelop the Village of Orange Mall. Residents participated in public meetings and formed the North Tustin Street Preservation Group.
